How to Harvest and Hull Black Walnuts
http://www.lifeunplugged.net/gardenpantry/how-to-harvest-and-hull-black-walnuts.aspx
This article really caught my eye. When I was 15 yrs old my parents moved the family from Illinios, in the middle of a big city, to a small town in Alabama. On the land we were living on there were some black walnut trees. Well, my Dad has always been a country boy and believes in eating what you can find. He had my baby brother and me gathering black walnuts and told us to hull them.
For those who have never hulled black walnuts before, make sure you wear some type of rubber or latex gloves otherwise your hands will be stained black! I found out the hard way, amid the laughter of my classmates at school.
Anyway, this is why the article caught my eye. Hope you enjoy reading it.

Re: How to Harvest and Hull Black Walnuts
We use black walnuts every year. We have trees all in the woods behind the house. Hubby hulls them and puts them in buckets, We then set the buckets behind the wood heater so they dry out. Then Rebekka takes a hammer and hits the nuts and I pick them. Then we make cakes, brittle, and all kind of diffrent things with them,
