ducks and their diet

Post by amybyrd21 on Thu May 21, 2009 8:49 am

My ducks are leaving the crushed corn on the ground. They are eatting veggi scrapes, grass and clover, bread, biscuits, and what ever they are getting out of the grass bug wise in their tractor. Is there something else that they need since they are not eating the corn. (this has been this past week they have been leaving it.)

I feed my ducks gamebird feed. Corn does not have enough protein for them- they need more than chickens. Actually, corn shouldn't be their (ducks or chickens) only feed- if you aren't going to buy regular feed you need to give them mixed grains so they get enough protein. They will live if all you give them is corn, but they won't lay as well or be as healthy as if you feed them more protein.

And, just out of curiosity- do they have water in their tractor? Not just a waterer, but a kiddie pool or a deep tub or something? They need it.

they have a place to swim. Hubby is working on another chicken tractor I think I am putting them in because it is bigger. They get some other grains when hubby has them.
he buys from a farmer and sometimes he is out. But they have left the corn this week. It just may be the corn. They eat the oats and all. They lve cabbage leaves. I think that is their favorite food.

I do not feed my chickens corn...if so very little, during warmer weather....Corn is fattening and it is what we call a "heat" food....corn will make them get got faster-probably because it makes them fuller...I give them a little corn to insure there yolks are the real yellow I like them....They are doing good with the diet you are giving them....MissKitty
