Setting up my peanut patch

Setting up my peanut patch
The first step was clearing and burning an area that had been over grown and was used as a brush pile for a couple of years. The next step was to let it rest and grow grass and sod. Today I got the tractor out and ran the subsoiler through the area, to improve the drainage. Now it will rest again until it dries and the soil warms up to about 68 degrees. Then we will get on with the business of tilling, planting and hilling. For now we wait.

I take it your ground isn't still frozen?

Nope, in fact it hasn't been frozen for some time, but is staying awfully wet in places. We've had a couple of freezes, but nothing has lasted more than a few days. Now they say we're headed into a drought, so I want the soil open enough to soak up every drop of water that it gets.

Did you ever get a peanut harvest this year? We just harvested ours. We had about a dozen or so plants. The Kid loved both planting and harvesting this crop.

I'll end up with more than that, but several plants did not produce. Some produced really well. I'll probably end up with about 3 to maybe 4 pounds....Plants dug filled the wheelbarrow
