Land management efforts Empty Land management efforts

Worked in the woods today, and while I'm tired, I feel great! There is just something about being in a place like this that just keeps you in a great mood.

Spent the afternoon clearing trails, building a feeding station, and putting the station in place. Great way to spend a vacation day. (too bad tomorrow it's back to the grind stone)

The feeding station was built from scrap lumber left from the front deck. The idea is to hold a day or two worth of corn, wheat, or nuts. I can use this as a bait station for the annual census of squirrel population. I plan to add three more stations, one even further from the house, and one closer. I have figured out that there are at least three squirrel population centers in the woods I am blessed with. Two are populated by Gray Squirrels, the third by Fox Squirrels. Keeping an accurate count helps determine how many can be harvested without harming the overall population.
