Shelving For My Reloading Bench
I finally got around to building a shelving unit for the top of my reloading bench. Since this is not to be a "fine" piece of furniture I wanted to go as cheep as I could. The back and sides are made from old doors from one of the dorm at our church camp. They were tongue and groove pine (I think). The actual shelves are the only parts I bought. They are white wood from Lowe's. I stained everything with Early American Stain from Minwax.
Here it is going together:
Finally got all the shelves fastened to the back.
The very top shelf is several inches wider that the rest of them so I could have room for a light so I can see better when reloading.
I also made a couple of handles for the big double drawer. The old handles were missing when I bout the desk.
I am glad to have this project done. I really did enjoy building this. Even though I doesn't match the desk color very well it will still be very serviceable and that is what is important here.

well "Fine Furniture" or not, that looks great! Thank you for inspiring me If I may be nosey, since the tongue and groove was a recent purchase, what did you pay (board foot, or per board) for those pieces.

They were old doors from one of the dorms at our church camp. We replaced the those doors with new ones and I took those ones since they were going on the trash pile. They were free and probably around 100 years old. The only wood I bought was the actual shelving from Lowe's.

To me it looks just beautiful! Love that old wood and you blended the new in very well.

Thanks Gramaki. I really enjoy woodworking and this was a fun project. I especially like using free used wood.

If I had the room to put them, I'd love to get some old barn boards.

Thanks for all the comments.
Yes it is great working with used lumber especially when it is free. This lumber has a special place in my feelings because it was from our church camp and I have a lot of memories throughout my childhood and life of attending there for spiritual enlightenment and growth. So when I look at the shelves it holds a lot of meaning to me.
Sound funny? Maybe so, but true nevertheless.
