how to keep mice out of the chicken tractors
We wnet to move the chicken tractor today that is near the neighbors cow field (seperated by a tree line) and we had a mouse run out from under the dog house that is in there. What can I do to take care of them.
Re: how to keep mice out of the chicken tractors
That is a good question Amy...Living out in the country they are hard little critters to get rid of...I hate MICE....they ain't many other critters that bother me like rats....If iy is where you can set you up a trap and use peanut butter to bait it....you might have to put wire around the trap so none of the other critters can get in....But I have found the the chickens will usually take care of them and love the chase...but they will eat eggs when given the chance...Let me check some of the other"fowl folks" and see if they god any ideas...
Maybe some of the other CH have some ideas to share with us...I know deer ans rabbits shy away from hair clippings but don't think it makes a never mind to mice...have a great day!!!!-MissKitty

I was upset by it. They carry germs and I do not want my chickens to get them. I can not keep a cat they do not stay around here. I figure the wild dogs and all my neighbors dogs that migrate to my yard due to children and feed.

Your chickens won't get germs from mice, but the mice will eat their feed. A rat will eat eggs and chicks- mabe even try to kill a bigger bird, but a mouse will most likely end up killed and eaten by your chickens.

We have not had them in our chicken tractors, but we do have them in our chicken coop. We have not found a way to totally eradicate them. When we get a rat, we can use a small live trap. Even then, they don't always go for it.
