homemade glow sticks
For camping or late nights at the beach? Leave 1/4 of Mountain dew in bottle (just dont drink it all), add a tiny bit of baking soda and 3 caps of peroxide. Put the lid on and shake - walla! Homemade glow stick (bottle) solution.
Re: homemade glow sticks
acid (citric and nitric) carbon dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda...sounds like a bomb to me
Re: homemade glow sticks
Keith, don't think there's enough to make it dangerous. Not sure what would prevent it from foaming up though with the baking soda and peroxide. I read this on another site and it sounded interesting, but we don't drink mountain dew, so never tried it.
Re: homemade glow sticks

the oxidiser and the acids combining with a base in a closed container... well try small quantities outside first. I don't dew either. Check you tube for mentos and diet coke to see why I have issues with this concontion.
Re: homemade glow sticks
I'll be interested to see how this works out when you let us know! If it works, it would be something the teens in our homeschool group would LOVE to try.

Re: homemade glow sticks
Too bad it didn't work for you. I may give it a try as a homeschool project with Ty. Thanks for the idea mountain mamma.
