Sick Day Care Packages
http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf57957092.tip.html
I thought this was a good idea. You may not add what the article suggests, perhaps adding or subtracting to suit your family's needs. With the health issues I deal with, I'm going to work on putting something together, so on the days I'm pretty much immobile things will still work around here. Here's their list, what would you put in yours?
While everyone hopes to avoid the dreaded winter cold, or even worse the seasonal flu, things don't always go as we wish. That's reason enough to prepare a sick day care package before you get sick. Listed below are examples of items that could be packaged in a sick day box or basket and stored in a cabinet or on a pantry or closet shelf. Having this available will eliminate the need to venture out to the store at a time when you are feeling awful.
A sick day care package could include:
• Cold medicine appropriate for whatever age groups reside in your house
• A supply of tissues
• A notepad for recording medication dosages and times and possibly a timer to use as a reminder of when medicines are due.
• Age appropriate quiet time activities such as coloring book and crayons, books, puzzle books, etc.
• A special movie or soothing music selections
• A special stuffed toy
• Certain foods such as a can of chicken soup, potato soup, crackers, clear sodas or ginger drinks that are generally associated with sick days should also be included in the care package

Re: Sick Day Care Packages
excellent idea!!
This should not be limited to just cold and flu symptoms though, hayfever, and certain injuries should also be planned for. About this time last year I over did it with my back, and ended up missing 10 days of work due to being rather hard headed (family trait it seems) and trying to do too much too fast, and the wrong way. Let me tell you a hurt back will put you out of action very quickly!
Anyway since you can never know when pain will take you out of action, some thought needs to be given to how you will cope if you are not able to walk without assistance, and what you will do to keep your mind active, and your thoughts positive. In my case I had an old wooden cane my mothers father had used 45 years ago, and I have a rather large collection of books, magazines, and movies. (pain control in the form of heat and ice, and Tylenol, and or your preference of therapy) a "tens" unit was used to keep muscle spasms at bay. These can be purchased for at home use and combined with moist heat relax even the most inflamed muscles.

I agree, you can make up a kit for whatever you think you'll need. Having spent almost a year practically immobile I learned to keep things close by. I have a walker, that I still use from time to time. Ty knows where it is and if I ever get into trouble he brings it to me. I also keep a phone with me at all times, since I never know when I'm going to go down.
