Crisp Toffee Bars

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour, sifted
1 cup (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts

Thoroughly cream together butter, brown sugar and vanilla. Add flour; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Press mixture in an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, 25 minutes or until brown. While warm, cut into bars or squares. Cool before removing from pan.
Makes about 5 dozen.
