Broccoli question Empty Broccoli question

Post by amybyrd21 Mon May 30, 2011 12:17 am

I planted 4 plants of broccoli in the garden this year. They do not have good heads on them it is kind of small and really losley packed. It is already blooming. Do I need to cut these off and let some more grow or leave them on there. I have never had a problem with it before. The stalks are kind of skinny too. I have good compost in the ground and have grown my broccoli here for years in the same spot.

I would try planting a few more, but not in the same spot. You are supposed to rotate your garden crops yearly, to avoid problems with depleted soil/fungus/pests. It sounds as though they may have bolted due to warm temperatures and it will go to seed on you now.
