Good Morning, Sonshine! (isn't there a song by that name? lol)
Hi Marie...

Actually, I believe this may be the song of which you speak....

I do have my 'temporal' pleasures too - some favorite tv programs and relaxing by watching movies.. Well, Idol isn't one of them for whatever reason, I don't know why.. maybe because dh doesn't like it.. but I don't see anything wrong with relaxing and enjoying entertainment..
Nor do I....

but I also understand CP's point of view.. I know many people like him and who say those things. It's always in the back of my mind. Maybe it's one of those seasons we go through, where we just want meat and potatoes instead of dessert.. At any rate, I've been trying to remember the scripture quote about this.. Something about wood and straw, things that will pass away... as opposed to the things that are eternal. Maybe CP can remember where that's written..... ??
1 Coronthians 3:11 For no one can lay any other foundation than the one we already have--Jesus Christ.

1Cr 3:12 Now anyone who builds on that foundation may use gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.

1Cr 3:13 But there is going to come a time of testing at the judgment day to see what kind of work each builder has done. Everyone's work will be put through the fire to see whether or not it keeps its value.

1Cr 3:14 If the work survives the fire, that builder will receive a reward.

1Cr 3:15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builders themselves will be saved, but like someone escaping through a wall of flames.

(P.S.... I see that Sonshine found it too...)

Yes, we need the 'meaty' things.. but dessert is nice too Smile
I believe that to be true Marie...

Ecclesiastes 9:7 So go ahead. Eat your food and drink your wine with a happy heart, for God approves of this!

Ecc 9:8 Wear fine clothes, with a dash of cologne!

Ecc 9:9 Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you in this world. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil.

Ecc 9:10 Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.

Good Morning, Starshine! Wow, does that bring back memories! They just don't make music like that anymore lol -- okay, now I'm sounding really old. Graduated in 1969 - 40 years agoooooooo

Yes, that must be the passage. The way I've heard it is in regard to conversation about 'earthly' things, as opposed to spiritual things.. As in - "Okay, enough of the wood, hay and stubble, let's get to the things that are eternal".

Ecclesiates - gotta love it. So much wisdom.

That would be a good way of putting it...
