How's everyones gardens doing? Empty How's everyones gardens doing?

I'm going to try to get Joe to get some pictures of ours posted soon. Our cabbage and lettuce are starting to form heads. The swiss chard needs to be thinned. Collards and mustard greens are coming up, but not as high as I would like. We had to replant them cause the first batch of seeds didn't take. Our first corn planting is about 6 inches high now. Potatoes are doing well, and the onions are holding on, but not thriving as much as I had hoped. Tomatoes and peppers seem to be doing ok. Things like okra, squash, beans, peas, and cucumbers we just got planted, so nothing coming up yet. My herb garden seems to be doing well. Blueberry bushes are covered this year, so hoping for a good crop from them. Our peach and apple trees we planted last year and this year have some fruit starting on them, but nothing on the pear trees or fig tree yet. Strawberries probably won't do anything this year because I just transplanted them.

I just noticed this morning, after we got off the phone that I have some asparagus coming up. I have a few tiny tomatoes, cukes are flowering, satsuma tree has some tiny oranges on it. I have to pollinate my pomegranite tree tomorrow to see if I can get some this fall. I have a couple of tobasco peppers coming in and one anaheim pepper. My herbs are doing good. I am going to plant some more asparagus since the ones I planted took. I have collard greens that are pretty big but only 2 actual plants. I need to treat them for bugs. Something is chomping on them. >_<

I think that is all I have right now....bah...this computer is driving my insane!!!! I wish my new one would come in.

7Dawn I got some asparagus seeds. Martha Washington I think. How do you grow it? I heard it takes two years before it is ready to pick. Does it spread? I know nothing about it but that my son will eat it roasted or grilled but no longer out of a can after having it fresh. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I've got a few beans, sunflowers and peas coming up. The broccoli and cabbage survived the freeze the other night but I lost a few other things. I did get a Red Haven peach and planted it last week. It seems to be doing ok, even with all of this cold weather we've been having lately. Hey, where did Spring go? scratch We are supposed to get frost again tonight. No

I just followed the planting directions and I have had 3 plants spring up. You basically did a trench about 6 inches and lay the roots in it. Cover them partially and when they sprout cover them with more dirt. I have never heard that it takes 2 years.....I just decided to buy some because I like it and it is expensive in the stores...lol! I was shocked when I saw the tiny little plants. Smile Oh, I have the same kind you do....

Patrice, I am Texas. The cold fronts seem to be gone now, Thank GOD! I do loathe cold weather.....

Well, we had a very heavy frost and I lost a few of the cabbages and broccoli so I'll have to start some more next week. Crying or Very sad I wish we'd warm up and stay that way already, but I live near Chicago, the city of experience ALL 4 SEASONS in one day. LOL Laughing

Patrice, having grown up in Rockford, I know all about the whole 4 seasons in one day. Joe was shocked when I told him I remember a time when we hunted Easter eggs in the snow. Smile
