Obama Academy

Post by 7dawn on Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:15 pm

So, Obama is getting a school built in Dallas. It will be a magnet school. I find this disturbing and annoying. Just what we need, to teach more kids to mess up our country through their socialist agenda...... Mad

I hadn't heard about that. He really doesn't need his own school to mess up the kids. They're already teaching a lot of the socialist agenda in public schools. I'm hoping that now that his base is getting frustrated with him that maybe it will derail some of the agenda.

I got it from the Texas "As a Mom" group. I will see if I can copy and paste it. I find it to be just a bit disturbing...

I was given permission to share this article from As A Mom.

New "Barack Obama" male leadership academy will open August 2011 - I think I'm going to be sick!Posted by TXVolleyGal - Austin Watchdog on December 5, 2010 at 11:46pm in Texas Moms

New male leadership academy will open August 2011

Dallas ISD's newest magnet school-Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at B.F. Darrell-will open to students in grades six through nine in August 2011. Two years in the planning, the school will offer a small, focused learning environment where young men are prepared for leadership roles in school, the community, and society.

"We've experienced the value of single gender education through the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School, which has consistently been one of Dallas ISD's top performing schools since opening in 2004," Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa said. "We have the same expectations for the all-male leadership academy."

Curriculum

The curriculum at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at B.F. Darrell will include pre-AP and AP classes, foreign languages, robotics, accelerated math and science, journalism, writing, and public speaking. The young men will be required to complete a technology-based project and a community service project each year.

Students also must participate in two extracurricular activities, which include debate and a variety of arts programs. Sports such as rowing, lacross, tennis, and physical conditioning also will be part of the academy experience.

The school will operate on a three-semester year. An additional grade level will be added each year until students are served through grade 12.

Planning

Planning for the school began two years ago with the naming of a task force led by Shirley Ison-Newsome, executive director of the Southeast Elementary Learning Community. The task force researched best practices from all-male schools throughout the country.

Requirements

Enrollment will be open to students throughout the district, but applicants must meet the district's minimum requirements for enrollment in a magnet school. Those accepted into the school will be required to wear a uniform of navy blazer, gray slacks, blue oxford shirt, and tie. Parents and guardians will be expected to actively support their child's education and school activities and to attend parent conferences.
