Pure Olive Oil Soap
http://littlehouseinthesuburbs.com/
I heard the stories about 100% olive oil soap, that it was so gentle and mild, yet “slippery” and “low suds.” I made up a batch and have been very pleased with it. Here’s the deal on the “low suds” issue–it’s true to some extent UNLESS you use one of those scrubby plastic bath puffs. With the puff, it is unbelievably sudsy. Also very sudsy as a shampoo bar. I love it. It’s a little bit of a water discount and it sets up very fast and gets hard as a rock in record time. Don’t wait too long to unmold and slice into bars–8 hours or so is all mine needed, but check your batch and make the call depending on your best judgment.
Olive Oil/Castille Soap
100 oz. olive oil
12.6 oz. lye
30 oz. water
Makes about 24 big, chunky, creamy-white, 4-plus oz. bars. Yum.
Follow safe soapmaking procedures.
This site has excellent instructions on how to make soap.
I added no essential oils to this batch, but a general guide for most essential oils is to add .5 oz. eo’s per pound of soaping oils. For this recipe you would need approximately 3.125 oz. of your favorite essential oil(s). Round up and use 4 oz. for extra oomph.
I bring mine to a fairly thick trace so I can make some swirls reminiscent of the hot process ones.
Let your soap cure for about 6 weeks for the hardest, mildest bars.

Re: Pure Olive Oil Soap
Where do you get lye? I've wanted to make soap so many times and I always fizzle out because of the lye.

It's getting harder to buy lye locally. Most companies that sell soap making supplies will sell lye. I can't remember the name of the company we got ours from, but I believe you can get it from Amazon.

Does this make your bath tub slippery?

Re: Pure Olive Oil Soap
Carla, I haven't made this soap yet, so don't know if it makes the tub slippery. That was an article on the link. The soap I make doesn't make the tub slippery though. I'll try to send you a bar from our next batch and see what you think of it.
Re: Pure Olive Oil Soap
Did you say you make your soap with goat milk or did I read that somewhere else? I have been looking for milk bath that mom used to get and I can't find it anywhere. We have hard water and my skin is so dried out from it. Trying to find something all natural as a moisturizer.

Re: Pure Olive Oil Soap
Carla, yes we make goat milk soap. I'd be happy to send you some from our next batch. I think we're making a couple of batches this week end. Just send me an email with what type of fragrances you like. It takes a few weeks for the soap to cure, but I can send you some as soon as it's ready. Just email your address again. I forgot to write it in my address book.
